How is water temperature measured?
NOAA tide stations and buoys and USGS gauges measure water temperature in the water, usually every 6 to 60 minutes. Where no sensor is close, we use NASA JPL’s daily satellite analysis. Satellite vs. buoy temperatures.
What water temperature is safe for swimming?
The National Center for Cold Water Safety advises treating water below 70°F with caution and recommends a wetsuit or drysuit below that. How cold is too cold to swim?
